In a stunning twist, Manchester United are attempting to hijack Manchester City’s deal to sign Alexis Sánchez this month. A deal with Henrikh Mkhitaryan heading to north London has reportedly been put on the table.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the offer trumps the terms Manchester City have offered the 29-year-old, who would be free to move for nothing in the summer. Alexis has had his heart set on a move to City for months and came close to completing a switch in the summer, only for Arsenal to pull the plug on deadline day.
The stumbling block back then is one that remains now: the Gunners will need to replace the Chilean. That alone makes Manchester United’s offer an interesting proposal. Mkhitaryan is out of favour at Old Trafford and was wanted by Arsenal during his time at Borussia Dortmund.
It remains to be seen whether Alexis would be willing to turn down City for United, even for more money, to complete a shock move to Old Trafford.
