Leicester City's unlikely push for the Premier League title may depend on a surprising source - a Thai monk.
The Foxes have been regularly visited by Buddhist monk Phra Prommangkalachan over the last three seasons.
He has provided the players with good luck charms and blessed the pitch.
Phra thinks that his trips to Leicester may have had an impact on the club's fortunes. Leicester went five points clear of Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Monday with a 1-0 victory against Newcastle United.
This season's displays follow a sensational escape from relegation and a promotion-winning campaign in that three year period, suggesting Phra's influence may have been long-term.
'I hang some amulets on their necks and I gave them these fabric talismans,' he said.
'I'm not sure if they understood what I explained to them about it, but they knew that it would bring them luck.'
Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, Leicester's owner, is reported to be a devout buddhist, which explains his decision to bring the monks to the club.
Phra is also confident that the Midlands side will be lifting the trophy at the end of the campaign.
'He brought monks there to pray for auspiciousness and luck in the game, for the management team and the players,' he added.
'The team will be the number one in the Premier League this year for sure.'
As if to symbolise the good fortune that Phra has brought the club, Leicester have won 12 games by a one-goal margin this season, more than any other side in the Premier League.
