Day Osogbo stood still for Yoruba Movie Awards



All roads led to the Osun State capital recently as the Yoruba Movie Acad­emy Awards (YMAA) held amidst pomp and pageantry. Powered by the State of Osun, Laface Productions and De­velopment Agenda of Western Nigeria (DAWN), YMAA 2014 aimed at celebrating creativ­ity and success stories of the Yoruba movie industry, took place at the WOCDIF Centre, Oshogbo.
Tunde Oshinibosi aka Laface, executive producer of YMAA, says: “My vision is to positively project the Yoruba movie indus­try by channeling and packaging the right activities that will facili­tate its growth. A major motivat­ing factor is the need for change and the vision to leave behind a lasting legacy that would be remembered long after my exis­tence. The is a clarion call for all well meaning Yoruba in particu­lar, and Nigerians, in general, to no longer sit on the fence, but look for avenues where they can contribute their quota profession­ally towards the development of the Yoruba movie industry.”


YMAA winners include Murphy Afolabi (Best Actor in a Lead Role); Dayo Amusa (Best Actress in a Lead Role); Yinka Quandri (Best Supporting Actor); Aishat Abimbola (Best Support­ing Actress); Best Comedy Film (Sanyeri); Best Comedy Act (Sanyeri); Desmond Elliot (Best Director); Ainidariji (Best Film); Lakasagba (Achievement in Cin­ematography); Gbenga Okunola (Achievement in Editing); Ye­wande Adekoya (Most Promising Act); Tope Adeoye (Achievement in Make-up); Titilayo Shobo (Best Child Act); Irugbin (Best Cultural Movie); Epsalum (Best Marketer); Mike Ezerunoye (Best Crossover Act);Ahmed Alawiye (Best Entertainer in an Acting Role) and Iyabo Ojo (Achieve­ment in Social Responsibility, Pinkies Foundation).
Also honoured were Chief Kola Oyewo, Kareem Adepoju (Baba Wande), Toyin Adegbola (Asewo to re Mecca), Mrs. Grace Adejobi (Iya Osogbo) and Adedeji Aderemi (Olofa Ina).
